SACH HOA HOC (https://sachhoahoc.com/), a new chemical industry research website, officially launched on August 10, 2026, with the mission of providing comprehensive industrial intelligence to support Vietnam's chemical sector development. The platform is maintained by an international volunteer team comprising students and researchers from Hanoi University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), Hanoi University of Industry, and chemical industry professionals from around the world.

The website aims to analyze and organize chemical industry development patterns across different countries, regions, and sectors to identify optimal pathways for industrial growth. Through a four-dimensional analytical framework—Regions, Industries, Enterprises, and Products—the platform provides valuable references for developing countries, including Vietnam, to chart their chemical industry development strategies.

Vietnam's chemical industry has evolved over nearly 70 years from a simple sector serving agriculture and basic livelihoods to a comprehensive system encompassing petrochemicals, basic chemicals, fertilizers, rubber, coatings, pesticides, industrial gases, battery materials, and specialty chemicals.

Current industry scale: Total output reached approximately $43.1 billion in 2024, projected to reach $47 billion in 2025. The sector comprises approximately 2,000 operating enterprises employing about 2.7 million people, representing 10% of the total industrial workforce.

The Vietnamese government has positioned the chemical industry as a strategic industrial sector, with policies emphasizing green transformation and high-value-added upgrading. Key policy documents include the Chemical Industry Development Strategy to 2030 (Vision 2040), targeting 10-11% annual growth, and the 2026 Revised Chemicals Law strengthening green chemistry principles and digital management.

Vietnam's chemical industry exhibits a structural characteristic of weak upstream, active mid-downstream, and high-end import dependence. Domestic chemicals meet only 40% of domestic demand, with over 60% of market share relying on imports. The petrochemical sector has only two refineries with total capacity under 10 million tons and petroleum self-sufficiency at approximately 25%.

Key enterprises include the Vietnam National Chemical Group (VINACHEM) with over 40 subsidiaries and 40,000+ employees, Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical (BSR), and foreign giants including Thailand's SCG and South Korea's Hyosung.

Vietnam's international cooperation forms a multi-layered, multi-regional, multi-model network. Japan, South Korea, and Thailand lead in industrial capital; China serves as a trade partner and EPC contractor; Kuwait, Russia, and the United States supply energy and raw materials; Germany and Europe provide technology and green transition support. Emerging cooperation with Egypt, Laos, and Sri Lanka focuses on resource complementarity and market expansion.

Future trends through 2035 include rising petrochemical self-sufficiency, green chemistry and bio-based materials expansion, electronic chemicals growth, accelerated specialty chemical deployment, digital manufacturing adoption, and industrial chain localization.

For cross-border chemical business, key opportunities in Vietnam include import substitution (60% import dependence), downstream synergy with electronics and automotive manufacturing, and green transition-driven incremental demand.
